The School of Agricultural Management and Extension Technology is a leading school in the Federal University of Technology, Minna, which is one of the top-ranking universities in Nigeria. The School is dedicated to providing quality education, research, and outreach services in agricultural management, extension, and technology. The School offers three undergraduate and seven postgraduate programmes, with over one thousand students. The School has twenty-nine qualified academic staff who have acquired several years of experience in teaching, project/thesis supervision, research, community service, and other academic-related activities.

The programmes of the School equip students with the knowledge and skills to address challenges in agricultural production, marketing, and rural development, with a focus on sustainable and climate-resilient practices. Through innovative teaching, research, and community engagement, the School aims to:

  • Enhance agricultural productivity and sustainability
  • Promote agribusiness development and entrepreneurship
  • Improve livelihoods of rural communities
  • Foster climate-resilient agriculture and environmental conservation

Brief history of the School

The School of Agricultural Management and Extension Technology was established in December 2024 following the unbundling of the former School of Agriculture and Agricultural Technology (SAAT) into three new schools: the School of Agricultural Management and Extension Technology (SAMET), the School of Agronomy and Forestry Technology, and the School of Food Science and Agricultural Technology.

Prof. J. H. Tsado was the first Acting Dean of the School from December 2024 to August 2025. Prof. I. S. Umar was appointed Acting Dean on 1 September 2025 and is the current Dean of the School.

The School comprises three departments: the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, the Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, and the Department of Agribusiness.

The philosophy of the School is to produce graduates who are job creators rather than job seekers. The vision of the School is to provide a world-class environment for high-quality academic and technological training suitable for the development of high-caliber manpower and to generate sustainable improvement in all areas of agriculture. The School’s mission is to produce graduates who are adequately equipped with comprehensive theoretical and empirical knowledge, as well as practical skills required for engaging in sustainable agricultural production and self-employment..

The School aspires to provide a world class environment for high quality academic and technological training in agricultural economics, business, extension and rural development suitable for the development and advancement of high calibre manpower and generate sustainable improvement in the areas of agricultural economics, business and extension technology.

Dean

The current Dean of School of Agricultural Management and Extension Technology is Professor Umar Sheshi Isah, a Professor of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, with over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, project/thesis supervision, community service and other academic related activities. He received B. Agric. from Usman Dan-fodio University Sokoto and M.Sc.  in Agricultural Extension from Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi. He obtained Ph.D in Agricultural Extension and Rural Sociology from Federal University of Technology, Minna. He has published over 70 research articles in reputable journals. He has also attended and presented several papers in both national and international conferences and workshops. His research interest is adoption of agricultural technologies/practices, capacity building needs, rural development and women in agriculture. He is a member of professional associations of Agricultural Extension Society of Nigeria (AESON), Farm Management Association of Nigeria (FAMAN), Association of Quality Assurance and Productivity Professionals and Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He held several academic responsibilities in the Department, School and the University.  He was Deputy Director and Director of Quality Assurance and Productivity Unit of the Federal University of Technology, Minna.
