The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units were established in MDAs by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) pursuant to circular (Ref. No. OHCSF/MSO/192/94 dated 2nd October, 2001), as an autonomous body with functional link to the CEO of the MDA.
ACTU operational guidelines are contained in the ACTU ‘Standing Order’, which provides for the rules on Status, Composition, Operations and Duties of ACTUs in the MDAs. Brief history of the Centre/Unit
ACTU first came into being during the tenure of Professor Tukur Saad and witnessed several changes in leadership. Among the past Chairmen of the Unit were, Prof. Akim Osunde, Prof. M. G. M. kolo, Prof. Bisi Alex Ayanwale and Prof. P. A. Idah who handed over to the present Chairman/Director Prof. K. U. Isah on the 10th March 2020. The Chairman/Director and other new members of ACTU were officially inaugurated on the 11th of March 2021 by ICPC.
Apart from its enlightenment activities, the unit has conducted various investigations of corrupt practices by both students and staff of the University, which lead to disciplinary actions taken against those found culpable, by the University.
The Director
Prof. K. U. Isah is the present Director of the Unit was appointed on the 26th February 2020. He joined the University on the 7th January 1991 as a graduate assistant and rose to the rank of a Professor in the Department of Physics on 1st October 2016. He has held various positions of responsibility in the University, amongst which are the Sub-Dean School of Science and Science Education from 2009-2010, the Head of Department of Physics 2010-2014, Acting Dean of the School of Physical Sciences 2018 to 2019. He served as a member of Council of the Federal University between 2013 to 2017.
