The Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) team visited the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA) on July 16, 2024, for the accreditation of the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics within the School of Environmental Technology (SET). The meeting took place in the Senate Chamber at the Main Campus.
 
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta welcomed the SURCON team and emphasized the value of peer reviews from professional bodies like SURCON. He mentioned that the institution has met its obligations and looks forward to the team’s report to integrate their findings and suggestions into the training program.
SURCON team lead, Dr. Lawrence Hart, stated that the purpose of the visit was to assess and appraise the Surveying and Geoinformatics program. He noted that SURCON is responsible for determining who qualifies as a surveyor and is there to validate the training and systems in place. He stressed the importance of Surveyors in all forms of development, especially within the Geo-space, and expressed eagerness to review the processes and mechanisms for training qualified graduates.
 
A key highlight of the visit was the presentation of the Surveyors Council Enabling Act to Prof. Kuta.
