The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTU) were established in Ministries Departments and Agencies (MDAs) by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) as autonomous bodies with functional link to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the MDA.

ACTU operational guidelines are contained in the ACTU “Standing Order”, which provides for the rules on status, composition, operations and duties of ACTUs in the MDAs. Section 6(a)-(f) of the corrupt practices and other related Offences Act, 2000 empowers ACTU to serve as compliance and ethics Officers with aim of:

  • Educating and enlightening their MDAs on corruption and related offences
  • Promote Ethics and Integrity through ensuring adherence to rules, regulation and upholding and enforcing compliance and Ethical Codes in MDAs
  • Monitor Budget Implementation in MDAs
  • Conduct preliminary/administrative investigation when necessary
  • Undertake the study and review of Operational systems of MDAs with a view to improving transparency and accountability

Mission

The mission of the Unit which is in line with that of its parent body-the ICPC is: to rid Nigeria of corruption through lawful enforcement and preventive measures. 

Vision

Its vision is a Nigeria free from all forms of corruption and corrupt practices.

Program and Events

The Unit holds statutory meetings every first Tuesday of the month

It conducts Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) of the University, in collaboration with ICPC

Some Members of ACTU, FUT Minna and Desk Officers from ICPC (both in suits), after 2023 Ethics and Integrity Compliance Scorecard (EICS) and ACTU Effectiveness Index (AEI) exercise.

The Director and two members of ACTU at the first 2023 ACTU workshop at the Anti-corruption Academy of Nigeria (ACAN) in Keffi, Nasarawa State.

Prof. K. U. Isah (BSc, M.Tech, and PhD) the present Director of the Unit, was appointed on the 26th February 2020. He joined the Services of the University on the 7th January 1991 as a graduate assistant and rose to the rank of a Professor in the Department of Physics on 1st October 2016. He has held various positions of responsibility in the University, amongst which are the Sub-Dean School of Science and Science Education from 2009-2010, the Head of Department of Physics 2010-2014, Acting Dean of the School of Physical Sciences 2018 to 2019. He served as a member of Council of the Federal University from 2013 to 2017.
