About Us

The Department came into being on the 1st of February 1983, in 1994 the Department changed its name to Electrical and Computer Engineering, in line with the trend in Computer Engineering and in 2009 the Department was divided into three of which Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one.

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering is one of the nine Departments of the School of Engineering and Engineering Technology (SEET), Federal University of Technology, Minna. The Department evolved in 2009 from the splitting of the former Electrical and Computer Engineering Department into three Departments which includes Telecommunication Engineering and Computer Engineering. It was created from the foresight of the immediate past Vice Chancellor, Prof. M.S. Audu who foresaw the need for specialization at undergraduate level in line with the trends in the industries.

Vision

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering is envisioned to be a leading Department and an academic centre of excellence in Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

Mission

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering will build capacity and develop human resources through pragmatic and dynamic training, research and development services to meet global standards in the field of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The Department offers courses that lead to B. Eng, M. Eng and PhD Degrees in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. The first set of graduants (4 in number) was in 1989. To date well over 2,000 students have graduated from the Department at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These graduates are working in different areas in Nigeria and Abroad. Many of them have made landmark achievements in their various areas of endeavour, particularly in Power Systems, Machines, Control, Telecommunication, Oil and Gas, Banking and Finance, Computer and Manufacturing industries. A few of them are actually in the academia. Presently the Department has about 800 students registered including about 130 postgraduate students. The specialized options available are as follows:

  • Electrical Machines and Drives
  • Electronics and Telecommunications
  • Control and Instrumentation.
  • Powerline Communications
