The Federal University of Technology, Minna has joined forces with Opay, a leading digital payment company, to provide financial assistance to indigent students through a newly launched scholarship program.
The collaboration was officially announced on Thursday, March 20, 2025, during a courtesy visit by Opay’s delegation to the University Management at Academic Publishing Centre, Main Campus.
Chief Public Affairs Officer of Opay, Justin Zhang, stated that the initiative is designed to ease the financial burden on students from disadvantaged backgrounds. The program, set to run for a decade, will grant each beneficiary ₦300,000 in support.
Vice Chancellor , Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta lauded the initiative, stressing its potential to curb dropout rates caused by financial difficulties. He also encouraged Opay to extend its partnership into other key areas such as women empowerment, agriculture, and research.
The delegation, led by the Director, Career Development Centre, Prof. Carolina Alenghena and accompanied by Deputy Director of the CDC, .Prof. Muibat Yahaya along with other Centre officials, was given a tour of the facilities at the Entrepreneur Centre following their visit to the University Management.
