. We’ll Build New Hostel with Grant – VC

The Federal University of Technology, Minna has won a two hundred and fifty million naira (N250, 000.00) Abdul Samad Rabiu Initiative (ASR Africa) Tertiary Education Grant 2022.

Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, Dr. Udoh Ubon who spoke briefly during the formal presentation of the award letter on Thursday, February 9, 2023 in Abuja disclosed that the University was included in the awards in recognition of its ranking, service delivery, leadership, development and quality of its graduates.

He congratulated the University’s Vice[1]Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta for the award.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor thanked ASR Africa for the philanthropic gesture. He disclosed that Management had resolved that the grant would be channelled into building a student hostel, given the paucity of hostel accommodation on campus.

Prof. Kuta further disclosed that, presently, less than 4, 000 out of the student population of over 26, 000 are accommodated in the hostels, adding that the institution seeks to accommodate, at least, 50 percent of its students on campus.

The ASR Africa Tertiary Education Grant Scheme is part of efforts of the Chairman of BUA Group, Alh. Abdul Samad Rabiu, to give back to the African continent and make lasting impact on education, as a means of uplifting and restoring the dignity and lives of Africans.

It is a $100-million annual fund for social development and renewal, with education, health and social development as focal areas. Out of the amount $50 million is devoted to interventions in Nigeria while the other half is for the rest of the continent.

On the VC’s entourage were the Registrar, Mr. Amos Nmadu Kolo; Bursar, Mrs. Hadiza Goje, fcna,fcti and Ag. Director, Physical Planning and Development Unit, Dr. Muhammad Isah Bala.
