Federal University of technology, minna has always been my winning team and ACEMFS is the clowning of the team and the icing on the cake for me. To me Federal University of technology, minna is the best, the lecturer-student relationship is the ultimate. Federal University of technology all the way.
Having acquired my master degree from the Southern part of Nigeria FUTA (Federal University of Technology Akure) to be precise, I decided to immediately pursue a doctorate degree but this time in the northern part of Nigeria so i chose FUT Minna (Federal University of Technology Minna). On getting to the postgraduate school then at Bosso, I was told all admission closed a day before. Tensed and broken, i pleaded to be given a late admission but there was no positive response as the admission portal was already closed.
Discouraged I went back to my base, shared my experience with my husband (then fiance) and he encouraged me to keep checking the school portal for possible re-opening. After a week, I received a call from him instructing me to check the school portal and i did immediately, luckily the portal was re-opened for the ACEMFS (African Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety) admission under the University. Without thinking twice, I filled the application form and met all necessary requirements for admission. Shortly, I was given not only an admission but was also granted a scholarship through the ACEMFS-FUT Minna to study PhD in Food Safety. It was a honorable opportunity and thank God I didn’t missed it. FUT Minna through the ACEMFS has been a blessing and source of testimony. It has given me opportunities to meet with experts (with humble personalities) in my area of study and also great fellowship with international colleagues. My consistency and determination brought me all these good fate through ACEMFS-FUT Minna.
I have experienced some lecturers who are caring and down to earth, going all the way to impact knowledge excellently. Learning has been great but quite challenging academically and emotionally. A lot still needs to be done for the learning experience to be better than what it is currently as there is always room for improvement.
I have really learnt a lot in Federal University of Technology Minna, what really surprised me was the Lecturer- students relationship, it was really different from where I came from. It is a good experience for me that I can relate with my lecturers as a father to son. This experience will be with me forever.
As a PhD student at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxins and Food Safety, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, my journey has been nothing short of remarkable. It’s not just a testimony of academic success, but a narrative of support, excellence, and unparalleled dedication from both my peers and mentors.

My journey as a PhD student at the center has been a fulfilling one, characterized by invaluable experiences and meaningful interactions. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside esteemed professionals and for the unwavering support I have received throughout my academic pursuit.
Looking back on my stay as a Master’s student at ACEMFs since 2019. Even though I’m on a full scholarship, things haven’t gone as smoothly as promised. It took me a year for each semester to finish my coursework, and now I’m still struggling with my thesis because of delays in getting adequate lab space and lack of funding as stated in the award.
But despite these challenges, the staff at ACEMFs are friendly and approachable, which makes things a bit easier. Plus, it’s great that the center hasn’t been affected by any strikes, so we can keep studying without interruptions.
As I keep going through the ups and downs of my time at ACEMFs, it’s been a journey of learning, adapting, and pushing forward.

My quest of getting admission at Federal University of Technology Mina; through the World Bank sponsored program named as; Africa Centre of Excellence in Mycotoxin and Food Safety(ACEMFS) was a blessing from Allah and the Centre leader; Professor Antony Makun, but these had also brought in so many challenges that appears undesirable with my expectation, to mentioned few of these challenges were; the self-sponsoring of my online classes, sampling collection and travelling risk taking and my internship exercise, since 2020 to 2023; amidst the pandemic and economic downturn in my country, it was painful more so when I am on study leave and being a family man with my wife and four children.
With great impetus in feeling when ACEMFS decided to approved my traveling for my laboratory proceedings; got me so happy and made me re-fixed in my expectation of hopes for a real completion of my program and increased of confidences that my expenses shall be reimbursed; only to be on waiting again and apparently; I have only received my sampling expenses on low budgeting, but still yet to receive my internship money and the two years backlog of scholarship expenses.
However, despite all the trails I that have gone through; I appreciate of being a student of FUTMINNA and a beneficiary of the ACEMFS with great passion to complete my PhD studies so that I can extend my knowledge on Food Safety in West Africa and my country Sierra Leone, since amongst the Sub-Saharan Africa countries; Sierra Leone classed as the most vulnerable nations with no analytical data on toxic heavy metals and Mycotoxin contaminants in our staple food called Rice.
Finally; I am still optimistic with the leadership of ACEMFS; that him and his team are worth with the task of delivering the objectives of the World Bank and I expect the leadership of FUTMINNA to provide ACEMFS with the support that would make them impact the Sustainable Development Agenda in training Food Safety Scientist across Africa on a real and justifiable manner.

My studying at ACEMFS FUT Minna is interesting as the standard is international, the classes are condusive for learning with well equipped chairs, AC, and fans. The centre has free internet connection which is accessible at anytime. Students are also giving listening ears first before the leceturers The laboratories are well equipped with standard equipments.
It is privilege to be acquired knowledge skills and understanding of what is called Toxic Toxicity And toxicant and their effects sign and symptoms in both living organisms and our total surroundings and their management.it is also very interesting to lives and mingles with people of different background.
I’m a phD. student with African centre of mycotoxin and food safety. A Proud one. The centre has set an international standard of putting the need of her student first in terms of education and welfare. The interpersonal skills of the lecturers are world-class. And the curriculum is comparable to other international institutions. Also the opportunities of collaboration and networking with other scholars around the globe is another aspect of the centre that should be lauded. Thank you ACEMFS. Thank you Federal University of Technology Minna.
The university is great at what they do. The members staff at all levels are awesome. The atmosphere and coordination of activities is top notch. Staff/ students relationship is quite commendable and worthy of emulation by other institutions of higher learning in Nigeria as it stands.
I am delighted to be here.
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
I am writing to express my profound gratitude for my extraordinary experience as a student of the African Centre of Excellence within the esteemed Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMINNA). My journey here has been nothing short of transformative, and words are not just enough to express them fully. I am honored to share my testimony of the invaluable benefits I have gained from this exceptional program.
One of the most remarkable aspects of my experience at ACEMFS has been the privilege of receiving a full scholarship, coupled with a stipend which enabled me to acquire essential tools for my academic journey, including a laptop. This huge support not only eased the financial burdens of paying school fees and other essentials but also underscored the center’s commitment to empowering students across Africa. The cutting-edge resources, network, and expertise provided by ACEMFS have fostered a profound understanding of complex concepts and methodologies in my pursuit to contribute my quota significantly towards achieving food security in Africa.
From the moment I embarked on my studies in Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, , I was immersed in a world-class online learning environment that surpassed all expectations, which I almost couldn’t cope with. At some point in my journey with ACEMFS, I almost opted out but many thanks to ACEMFS leadership and my amiable colleagues. I was also inspired by the Centre’s unwavering commitment to overcoming myriads of challenges since its inception, this has resulted in her emergence as a beacon of excellence, fostering a vibrant community of scholars, lecturers, and mentors. I am particularly fascinated by the wealth of knowledge I have garnered from courses on Intellectual Property Research Ethics and Nanotechnology on a broader scale.
The center’s dedication to ensuring a conducive learning environment extends beyond academics. When I needed to relocate to campus, I was warmly welcomed into a befitting accommodation, ensuring that my focus remained steadfast on my studies. Access to the University’s internet facilities and the expansive school library further enriched my learning experience, providing me with unparalleled resources to thrive well.
Beyond academic enrichment, ACEMFS leadership has nurtured my entrepreneurial spirit and equipped me with the skills and mindset needed to navigate the professional landscape with confidence and resilience. I am immensely grateful for the privilege of being a student at ACEMFS, and I am determined to leverage the knowledge and skills gained here to make meaningful contributions to both the centre and the university at large. My experience serves as a testament to the transformative power of education, and I am deeply indebted to ACEMFS and FUTMINNA for providing me with the opportunity to realize my full potential. ACEMFS also gave me the leverage to unlock several global opportunities beyond my imagination.
Lest I forget, I have been able to extend my network by meeting other young, vibrant, and emerging researchers and scholars across Africa. I strongly believe this synergy and collaborative labours initiated by the Centre would result in providing sustainable solutions to food safety issues within the African landscape.
I humbly express my heartfelt appreciation to the university management for their unwavering support and to the entire ACEMFS community for their dedication to excellence. My journey at ACEMFS has been nothing short of life-changing, and I am excited to continue this journey as a proud ambassador of this remarkable institution.
Sincerely,
Gbotemi Jerry Oni
The Africa Center of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety, Federal University of Technology Minna has availed the opportunity to study a rare course combination – Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics found anywhere in the country.
A big thanks to ACEMFS, FUT Minna!
I feel incredibly privileged to be a PhD student at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxins and Food Safety, established at the highly esteemed Federal University of Technology Minna. As a beneficiary of a full scholarship scheme, I am overwhelmed by the opportunities and benefits that studying at this exceptional center has provided me.
As a PhD student at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxins and Food Safety, I am grateful for the opportunities and benefits it provides. The academic excellence, access to state-of-the-art facilities, and the collaborative atmosphere have broadened my knowledge and refined my perspective on research methodologies, critical thinking, and problem-solving techniques. The center also offers access to state-of-the-art technologies, enabling me to delve deeper into my research area and develop innovative solutions.
Collaboration with fellow students and researchers from diverse backgrounds fosters a culture of networking and interdisciplinary research, leading to holistic solutions to complex challenges. The center offers numerous workshops, seminars, and conferences to enhance research and professional skills, and I have had the privilege of attending international conferences.
Studying at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxins and Food Safety has given me a sense of responsibility and motivation to contribute to society, as the center’s focus on mycotoxins and food safety is crucial in addressing agriculture and public health in Africa and beyond.
It has been a long and not too smooth but amazing journey being the pioneer and COVID-19 set of students.
Personally, a whole lot has been experienced academically and otherwise with it’s ups and downs. Our lecturers have been there for us. My spirit of teamwork got strengthened in the course of the program. My SIWES experience was a great addition to my reservoir of knowledge.
I wish to commend the centre on the effort made so far in seeing to the successful achievement of the centre’s mandate.
I also wish to advice the centre to improve in the coordination among the team. The organisation of activities in the centre appear to us as though some members (lecturers taking us some courses) are not been carried along in the preparations of the centre’s schedule of activities or as though they don’t have the details of what their schedules of activities are.
I pray may Allah guide the team ease their affairs.
I am Mech food safety student.. the programme is very beneficial .. I have learnt a lot about food safety , toxins and effects on health. Emerging technologies and applications in food, engineering and health etc the lecturers are competent , dedicated, hardworking and knows how to impact knowledge..the Centre structure is a great innovation and makes the environment more conducive .however there are few limitations.
Challenges
Non implementation of the full hybrid Leaning processes. exam processes is tedious.
Inadequate internet service
The ACEMFS programme is indeed excellent. The leadership/mentorship of the centre leader and his team is appreciated. Simply put, Prof. H.A Makun is an excellent resource person whose commitment to ACEMFS programme is second to none ..
But I have my reservations in the following:
*Making a single lecturer appearing in five courses as a lead instructor, with almost all the examination questions of the courses being contributed by the lecturer … This might not bring about a balanced assessment of the students especially if the lecturer is tough in his/her approach to question setting. At least three lecturers should be engaged in teaching core courses…
*Making three (3) questions compulsory in an examination may box students to “a tight corner” and affect overall performances… Compulsory questions in examination should be made one or two…
*The idea of a particular lecturer calling for lecture of a course whose examination has already been written is completely strange. ..All what needs to be taught should be taught before examination…
As one of the beneficiary of the ACEMFS scholarship, I am pleased to say that I really enjoy and I’m benefiting educationally from the center, as such my profound gratitude and appreciation. They are really making effort for us students to get the best
It has been 7 months or so at the African Center of Excellence, Mycotoxins and Food Safety, Federal University of Technology, Minna, but all I can say is ‘not bad’ and ‘not good enough’.
As a full scholarship student at the center, I expected a much better and well organized center, though it has lot of things to set in place as it has just erected its building. They are doing well within their means, however, a lot has to be done in order to strategize the program to becoming a world standard scholarship center.
Moreso, the welfare of the students has to be taken seriously inorder to attract and maintain excellent students in the center, more especially the international students. Nonetheless, the welfare of Nigerian students need not to be disregarded as well, as prioritizing a party will not augur well with the mindset and productivity of the students. ‘All’ students should be treated with ‘equity’ and fairness, as all students; especially those on full scholarship are under the same award.
Another key thing to buttress on regarding students at the center is about the somewhat-lackadaisical attitude of the center to the issue of students’ research. Some students have spent almost 3 years with no sight of concluding their research, this is very worrisome. An 18 months program should not exceed 18 months for a student on a world standard scholarship like the ACE – a world bank sponsored program. Likewise course work should be timely discharged accordingly. Breakdown of lectures should be made available and be maintained accordingly in order not to have a lengthy semester that will eventually prolong a students timely graduation.
Lastly, I will recommend the center to work very well on developing a ‘working system’ in the center, restructure the studentship into a more research and training program for students, engage all staff and students across board, and then lastly work on the ‘communication gaps between the center and students (communicate adequately and properly to students).
Thank you.
Kind regards.
I am Khadijah Muhammad Tako, M.Tech Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics student of Federal University of Technology Minna Africa Centre of Excellence For Mycotoxin and Food Safety. I am glad to be part of the program, I have had the privilege of meeting with students from different African countries. I am pleased and thankful for the online sessions being conducted. I gained a research scholarship for the program and have a privilege of attending an entrepreneurship program where I had an experience and certificate will be issued. The environment is very conducive for learning and the centre lecturers discharge their primary assignments as at when due and accommodative in general.
So far I appreciate the standard of the school and the lecturers student relationship which gives room for great mentorship. This is top notch for me
Generally, the curriculum is well designed except that for a Ph.D candidate, the taught courses are too many. This leaves little room for conducting reviews, seminars, and publications.
The center has a conducive environment for learning and equipt with highly knowledgeable lecturers who are passionate about impacting knowledge. They give their best at all times and are committed to their work. I really appreciate their immense effort and sacrifice made to see we achieve the best.
My testimony is going about the management of the campus.
I want to appreciate first of all the efforts of our vice chancellor and our Center Leader. They are doing great job both for national and régional students. The quality of the equipment we have in school. We can have network everywhere.
I applied for a master program back in 2019 and started the lectures in 2021. It was a tough one because we had to attend classes online, which was not well planned for at the beginning and also ASUU strick hich contributed lengthening the program. But finally I’m in my last stage I the lab and hopefully determined to finish as soon as possible.
Despite the academic calendar challenge. The Program is going on fine.
The ACEMFS program is a good initiative but has so many drawbacks. For me the whole process has completely slowed down my Academic career. It’s been 4years plus and I am hoping things end well. In all sincerity I am not happy with the turn out of events. I hope to graduate soon and I pray things get better.
I got an intertional short course training scholarship, because I am a student with Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety.
Being the pioneer set at the centre is a memorable journey full of ups and downs. With of course a whole lot of knowledge tapped from our lecturers.
The introduction of Nanotechnology and DNA Sequencing are novel which conforms with the global practices.
The centre also exposed me to an internship program which gave me the opportunity to delve into the molecular biology world..
The program at the Centre is lasting too long but embedded with valuable knowledge.
It has been a great, amazing and patient journey studying at the Africa Centre of Excellence for Mycotoxin and Food Safety, FUT Minna. It was wonderful being the pioneer set of the Center as were taught by different lecturers both Nationally and Internationally. Although the lectures were taught online, it gave me a different experience and improved my knowledge in the digital world.
Studying at ACEMFS, FUT MINNA, has widened and improved my knowledge on food safety and enlightened me on so many aspects Involved in the mycotoxin and food safety challenges in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
My spirit of team work got strengthened with supportive lecturers.
The teaching learning process was great
Being a student under the ACEMFS has been a privilege. It gave me the opportunity to meet different people from different countries, I was tutored by people from different countries, i have friends from different countries. It gave me a variety and made the whole learning system interesting. The lectures are also humble and caring. I really enjoyed my study with the ACEMFS.
The school is trying
As a passionate student dedicated to academic growth, I embarked on a journey toward greatness within my chosen study area. Through perseverance, diligence, and a thirst for knowledge, I sought to transcend boundaries and achieve excellence.
Yet, the path to greatness was not without its challenges. There were moments of doubt and setbacks, where obstacles seemed insurmountable. However, I refused to succumb to discouragement. Instead, I embraced these challenges as opportunities for growth, learning valuable lessons from every setback encountered. The ACEMFS futminna center has offered me a conducive learning environment where my academic dream can be achieved, by providing me with the necessary material and equipment to help me effectively carry out my work. So I will encourage very students out there who wish to further in their chosen academic career to consider choosing the best which is futminna. Thanks.
This is a platform that’s has impacted so so much in my life. I want Thank Almighty God, the initiators of this great opportunity for making this a dream come through.
It’s a privilege to be enrolled as a student in this prestigious institution of learning. The learning experience has been all encompassing and apparently a grooming process for upcoming world class professionals in the field of science and technology. Immense thanks to the Institution and her distinguished lecturers for their dedication to imparting valuable knowledge to the students.
Having the opportunity of being fully sponsored for my master’s program has helped me in achieving a milestone in my academic pursuit. It provided me with the access to a network of hardworking and dedicated staff and peers. I was opportune to gain knowledge and experience from experts. The learning environment was serene and i had access to resources that aided my learning. I am forever grateful to ACEMFS, there are no words to describe how I feel. Thank you so much, and may God bless you. Thank you for making a difference in my life, and other people’s lives.
I Appreciate God Almighty and the the initiative of this system for the opportunity to be part of the first Beneficiary of the scholarship package. This system has really changed my life because I never believed that I can go to school with all expenses paid and still collect stipend on monthly basis.
I want to sincerely say a big thank you to everyone who has made this work.
long live Federal University of Technology
Lon Live World Bank of Nigeria
Long live Africa Center of Excellence
My course has been great and my interaction with the lecturers has been worthwhile.
The only issue is that there is always some hitch with the issue of transmission of timely information to students.
And also the fact that my program is getting more elongated than necessary first, owing to covid 19 and then other issues that are ot quite known to we the students.
In general it has been a great stress free learning environment and experience for me. Thank you
FUT Minna is a wonderful place of learning. Hoping to complete my program this year.
As an M.Tech. Food Safety student at the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna), I am excited to share my testimony of the exceptional experience and benefits I have encountered at this esteemed institution.

Moreover, the supportive environment fostered by the university management and fellow students has contributed significantly to my academic and personal growth based on an experience I encountered. I have felt encouraged to explore my interests and expand my horizons.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend the Federal University of Technology, Minna, to any International and national prospective student seeking a quality education.
