The Career Development Centre, Federal University of Technology, Minna has hosted a one day Induction and Training on for her Pioneer Student Volunteer Career Counsellors. The induction ceremony was held on Thursday, 3 July, 2025 at the Entrepreneurship Centre, Main Campus.
While declaring the event open, the Dean Student Affairs, Prof. Bashir O. Ganiyu appreciated the Director and her team for get this far within the space of one year, and for their selfless service in making sure that the centre grows from strength to strength, and to the pioneer student volunteers, that they should see this as a golden opportunity to be equipped with the necessary skills to excel in their chosen career and to embed same to their fellow students.
In her welcome address, the Director, CDC, FUT, Minna Prof. Caroline O. Aloneghena congratulated the finalised, stating that the centre is meant to help students find their path in life, and the best way to achieve that is to have student Counsellors who will act as role models in their schools and department, adding that its not by chance that they are here but because they all have something to offer. She also mentioned some facilities at the centre which include a brainstorming room, Virtual reality headsets and a resource centre that will aid their work.
The Deputy Director, CDC, FUT, Minna, Prof. Muibat D. Yahya, mentioned some of the benefits they are expected to get as student volunteers which includes; adaptability skills, how to improve their communication skills, networking opportunities, mentorship, leadership and teamwork, and they will also be certify, adding that they can always fall back on the centre for recommendations and references.
One of the Career Development Centre’s Counsellor, Mr. Bamidele Ayodeji Adedayo also had a short talk with the Student Volunteer Career Counsellors on what they are expected to do, while congratulating them for being found worthy to guide their fellow students, adding that their job is to compliment the work of the Centre’s Counsellors, and there work is expected to revolve around educational, vocational /career counsellors and social personal counselling. He added that they are expected to have some qualities such as confidentiality, they should be active listeners, empathy and patience, emphasising that they can always reach out to the Career counsellors if any issue is hard for them to handle.
In a vote of thanks, the students thanked the Career Development Centre for the opportunity and promised to put in their best in in making sure that they aid in bringing the vision and mission of the centre to actualisation.
