The Freedom of Information (FOI) Desk Officer at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Barr. Evelyn Makun, has presented the maiden edition of the FOI Magazine (June 2025) to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta. The presentation took place on Monday, June 30, 2025, at the Academic Publishing Centre, FUT Minna.
 
Barr. Makun explained that the magazine, which was launched during the FOI Strategic Stakeholders Training Workshop held from June 24–25, 2025, at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja, is aimed at sensitizing, informing, and educating citizens on their right of access to public information. She noted that the publication also seeks to enhance public knowledge on the power of open governance as a pillar of democratic development. The workshop had as its theme: “Upholding Accountability and Transparency in Governance: A Comprehensive Review of the FOI Law for Public and Corporate Organisations.”
 
Briefing the Vice-Chancellor on the outcomes of the workshop, which was organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Freedom of Information, National Assembly, Abuja, Barr. Makun conveyed the Committee’s commendation of FUT Minna’s high level of compliance with the FOI Act. She highlighted the University’s transparency, especially its consistent publication of income and expenditure reports through the Campus News weekly bulletin.
 
In response, Prof. Kuta expressed delight at the recognition from the House of Representatives Committee on FOI. He reaffirmed the University Management’s commitment to promoting transparency and pledged continued support for the effective implementation of the FOI Act.
