The WINEST Student Research Team from the School of Electrical Engineering and Engineering Technology, Federal University of Technology Minna represented by Mr. Othniel Emmanuel Eggah and their mentor, Prof. James Agajo, achieved a significant victory at the AI for Good Summit held in Geneva, Switzerland on May 30, 2024. The summit, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), brought together top experts in artificial intelligence from both industry and academia.

Prof. James Agajo shared that the competition was intense, with over 800 research groups participating globally. From these, only 10 were selected for the final contest in Geneva, where the WINEST FUT Minna team was declared the winner in the Use Case 6.0 category under the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) initiative of the United Nations.
Following their success in Geneva, the team has been invited to the 2024 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai, scheduled for July 4-6, 2024. The conference, themed “Connecting Intelligence for a Shared Future,” will feature Conference Forums, Exhibitions, Award Competitions, and Application Experiences, bringing together top experts, scholars, and industry leaders to discuss the future of AI.

For the first time, the conference will also include the Future Tech 100 innovation project showcase area. This initiative aims to highlight 100 start-up projects with significant foresight, growth potential, and commercial value, fostering global innovation and entrepreneurial investment activities.

Prof. Agajo expressed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, and his management team for their exceptional leadership and support, which played a crucial role in the team’s success.
