The Industrial Liaison office, Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna in collaboration with Industrial Training Fund, (ITF) Minna organised a two-day orientation programme for the 2023/2024 Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), Phase II and III.

The event held from Monday 29th to Tuesday 30th April 2024 at the University Auditorium, Main Campus.

Delivering his speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abdullahi Mohammed, praised the Industrial Liaison office for hosting the event.

He emphasised the significance of SIWES in the academic programme of the University. Specifically, he highlighted that FUT, Minna students, being a University of Technology, require hands-on practical experience in operating machinery and equipment available in industries, which they might not encounter in the university setting.

In a brief statement, the Area Manager of ITF at Minna Area Office, Aliyu Ibn Zakari, represented bythe Principal Development Officer, Audishetu Usman Adama, expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and his team for the opportunity to attend the programme. He also emphasised the importance of the SIWES programme, which is a Federal Government initiative aimed at familiarizing tertiary education students with industrial work environment to bridge the theory-practice gap. The ITF’s role in implementing the scheme was underscored to ensure its success.

The Industrial Liaison Officer/SIWES Coordinator at FUT, Minna, Prof. Ezekiel Salawu Yisa, commended the Management for creating a conducive training environment. He stressed the importance of equipping students with the necessary rules and regulations before their deployment, urging them to pay close attention to their facilitator sand apply their acquired knowledge effectively.

Six Schools that participated in the orientation programme were: SLS, SET, SICT, SIPET, SEET, and SPS while SSTE and SAAT had theirs in December last year. Various resource person spoke on the significant of the exercise.
