About Us

The Equipment Maintenance Centre (EMC) was established to provide technical support services (Installation, Maintenance and Repairs) to the various Scientific/Office Equipment supplied to the University for its daily operations. The primary objective of the centre is the development, procurement, Installation and management of our equipment in the University. The centre is also to initiate the development of a maintenance culture within the University. The centre is made up of five operational units with specific mandates. These includes-

  1. The Laboratory Equipment Unit
  2. The Office Equipment Unit
  3. The Workshop Equipment Unit
  4. The Computer/Communication Equipment Unit
  5. The Workshop Equipment Unit

Mission

The mission of EMC is to assist the Vice-Chancellor in the process of procurement of Teaching/Research and administrative equipment in the University. EMC is to ensure proper specifications prior to the procurement of Teaching/Research equipment. This University is assisted in acquiring branded equipment and to avoid the purchase of sub-standard and cloned equipment. EMC certifies, installs and train staff on the usage of equipment delivered to the University Particularly the Hi-Tech. equipment. Such training provides the end-user the appropriate knowledge of the equipment, principles and operational technique of the equipment for effective usage and to produce reproducible research results

Vision

Dr. I. C. Ogbonnaya is a highly qualified and experienced Analytical Chemist/Instrument Technologist. Dr. Ogbonnaya has a proven record of achievement in the management of Hi-Tech. Research/Teaching Laboratory equipment at the Federal University of Technology, Minna. He holds an M.Tech. and PhD Degrees in Analytical Chemistry and is a member of several professional bodies and organisations. Dr. Ogbonnaya has attended several National and International training programmes in Scientific Equipment Instrumentation and maintenance and is vast and experienced in providing technical support to teaching and research programmes. He was the Coordinator of the Central Research Laboratories Unit (CRLU) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna prior to his appointment as the Coordinator of the Equipment Maintenance Centre (EMC). He has served in several special community services within and outside the University. The recent ones include member, University Transition Committee on infrastructure and member, Committee on procurement of Hi-Tech. Scientific equipment by Tetfund
