The Career Development Centre (CDC) of the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUTMINNA) has organized a two-day Step-Down Training for its staff on effective service delivery and ethical codes of conduct. The event, held on January 22, 2025, at the Entrepreneurship Centre on the University’s Main Campus, aimed to enhance the Centre’s capacity to prepare students for life beyond academics.
In his closing remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Faruk Adamu Kuta, emphasized the importance of equipping students with skills for self-reliance in addition to their degrees. He highlighted the initiative by TETFUND to establish the Career Development Centre and encouraged its staff to expand their reach by incorporating departmental representatives.
Prof. Kuta also advised the Centre to collaborate with experts and strive for excellence in its operations.
In her welcome address, the Director of CDC, Engr. Prof. Caroline O. Alenoghena, expressed gratitude to the University’s Principal Officers for their support of the maiden training. She noted that departmental representatives would help bridge the gap between the Centre, students, alumni, and industry partners. She assured the Vice-Chancellor that the CDC’s activities would contribute to improving the University’s ranking.
The Deputy Director of CDC, Prof. Muibat D. Yahya, in her opening remarks, urged participants to engage actively in the training and work collaboratively to establish the Centre as a model of excellence. She outlined plans for upcoming services, including career counselling, job placement, internships, and workshops on resume writing, as well as interview preparation, and entrepreneurship.
During the vote of thanks, Dr. Abdulhafeez A. Ochepa expressed gratitude on behalf of the trainees and reaffirmed their commitment to the Centre’s goals. He emphasized the team’s readiness to apply the skills and knowledge acquired during the training.
The facilitators of the training included Prof. Muibat D. Yahya, Engr. Dr. Umar Suleiman Dauda, and Engr. Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Sadiq. Topics covered included the evolution of Career Service Centres, designing career programs across the student lifecycle, developing career counselling skills, and measuring success.
The training is expected to significantly enhance the CDC’s ability to support students and alumni in achieving their career aspirations while strengthening FUTMINNA’s reputation for excellence.
