Qualifications and Experience Required for the Positions

Professor

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in the relevant field with a minimum of three (3)
years as Associate Professor plus a minimum of fifteen (15) points from publications of
which ten (10) must be from reputable journals.

Associate Professor

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in the relevant field with a minimum of three (3)
years as Senior Lecturer plus a minimum of ten (10) points from publications of which six
(6) must be from reputable journals.

Senior Lecturer

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in the relevant field with a minimum of three (3)
years’ experience as Lecturer I plus six (6) points from publications of which four (4)
must be from reputable journals, or a PhD degree holder from a relevant research institute
with substantial research experience, in addition to six (6) points from publications, out
of which four (4) must be from reputable journals.

Lecturer I

Applicants should possess a PhD degree in the relevant field with a minimum of three (3)
years teaching and research experience and a minimum of four (4) points in publications
out of which two (2) must be from reputable journals.

Lecturer II

Applicants should possess a PhD degree or Master’s degree with considerable teaching/
industrial experience and two (2) points from publications.

Assistant Lecturer

Applicants must have a Master’s degree with not less than 3.50 CGPA in the relevant field
and must show evidence of teaching and research potential or experience.

Graduate Assistant

Applicants must have First Class degree or Second Class degree (Upper Division)
in the relevant field.

Note

  • For all academic positions other than Graduate Assistant a candidate must have a minimum
    of Second Class Lower degree apart from the postgraduate degree(s).
  • Appointment to professorial ranks is subject to external assessment of candidate’s
    publications and general contributions to knowledge and national development.
  • Candidate who has never taught in any University before cannot be appointed directly to
    the rank of a Professor or Associate Professor.
  • For appointment to professorial ranks, a candidate must show academic leadership through
    postgraduate supervision and be able to attract research grant from both local and
    international funding agencies.
  • Candidate applying to Senior Lecturer position and above must be a registered member of
    their own professional bodies.

Conditions of Service

The same as obtained in other Federal Universities in Nigeria.
