Prof. Elizabeth Nonye, Onwuka is from of Azigbo in Nnewi-South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria.
She obtained a Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Master of Engineering (M.Eng. Communications option) Degree from Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department, Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna, Niger State, Nigeria, in October 1992 and March 1998 respectively, and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree, in Information and Communication Engineering (ICE), from Tsinghua University, Beijing, People’s Republic of China, in July 2004.
Prof Elizabeth N. Onwuka has been a staff of the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna where she rose from the rank of Assistant Lecturer in October 1993 to the rank of Professor in October 2013. She is currently the Acting Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering and Technology (SEET). She was formerly Deputy Director CREDIT (2007), Coordinator Information and Communication Technology Centre (2008 -2011), Acting Dean School of Information and Communication Technology (2011 – 2018), Head of Telecom Engineering Department (2009 – 2018), member of the Editorial Board of the University Journal (2012 – 2018), member of the 12th University Governing Council (June 2017 – May 2021) all at Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State. Prof E.N. Onwuka teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, has supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate theses and has over 65 publications in journals and conference proceedings. She also holds a European Patent.
Her research interests include Resource Management in Wireless Communication Networks, Cognitive Radio, Green Wireless Networking, Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data Analytics.
Professor Onwuka is a COREN Registered engineer, a member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers Women in Engineering (IEEEWIE), Third Word Academy of Sciences TWAS, Association of Professional Women Engineers in Nigeria (APWEN) and Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE). She holds a chieftaincy title in her home town (Chief Anya Luo Uno) of Azigbo in Nnewi-South LGA of Anambra state.
She is fluent in Igbo and English and understands Chinese and Hausa languages.
Prof Onwuka has won a modest number of awards in her work life, including Servicom Award (FUT Minna, 2008), Patriot Award (Azigbo, 2015), Distinguished Service Award (SSTE, FUT Minna, 2016), outstanding achievement award (Azigbo 2018), and Sir Ahmadu Bello Sarduana Platinum Distinguished Leadership Award (NANNS 2020).
