Brief History of the Department:

The Quantity Surveying Programme at the Federal University of Technology, Minna, was established under the School of Environmental Technology in 1987. Dr Muhammadu Abubakar Wuna served as Programme Coordinator from 1987 to 1991. During this period, students were required to complete a two-year foundation course before being admitted into 300 Level, after which they spent a further three years in the Department to qualify for the award of a Bachelor of Technology in Quantity Surveying.

The programme structure changed in 1991 to a regular five-year full Quantity Surveying Programme, with students admitted through the University Matriculation Examination (UME), or four years for those entering with a National Diploma (ND), and three years for candidates holding a Higher National Diploma (HND).

Mr Philip Olayemi Lawal served as the first Head of Department on an acting basis from April 1991 to September 1993. Dr Timothy Chukwuemeka Mogbo became Head of Department from October 1993 to May 1996, after which Alhaji Sulaiman Bolaji took over on an acting basis from June 1996 to May 1998. Dr Olayemi Philip Lawal served a second term as Head of Department between May 2007 and May 2010, after which he retired from service.

Alhaji Sulaiman Bolaji was appointed Head of Department for a third time from June 2010 to September 2012.
