The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established on February 1, 1983. It was named the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1994 to align with the growing field of Computer Engineering. Dr. Umar Suleiman Dauda received his B.Eng. degree from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Niger State, Nigeria, in 2002 in the department of Electrical/Computer Engineering and the M.Eng. degree from the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi State, Nigeria, in 2011, in Electrical Engineering. He completed his PhD degree (Electrical Engineering) with the department of communication, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2018. From 2016 to February 2018, he was a member of the Advanced Telecommunication Technology Research Group in UTM Malaysia. Dr. Dauda is a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in Nigeria and a registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Umar Suleiman Dauda has undertaken the Competency-based Economies through Formation of Entrepreneurs (CEFE) train the trainers (ToT) Programme with GIZ in 2010 and was certified. He has also been taking Entrepreneurship courses in the Department and Faculty since 2011 aside the core Electrical and Electronic engineering courses. He is an active trainer working with the University Entrepreneurship center in facilitating trainings organized by center, GOPA and GIZ. Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) (100 Level)
Candidates are required to obtain Five (5) credits at ‘O’ Level of not more than two sittings, which must include Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, English Language and any other science subject (that is, Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing or Biology/Agricultural Science). In addition, they should obtain scores higher than or equal to the JAMB/University admission minimum score.

It was 8 out of 8 for the representatives of EEE at the maiden edition of project exhibition organised by the department of mechatronics engineering, under the project Artificial Intelligence for Clean Energy (AI4CE).
