Industrial Mathematics

About the Department

The Department of Industrial Mathematics is domiciled in the School of Physical Sciences, Federal University of Technology Minna. The Department was officially granted take off approval during the 2024/2025 academic session after passing through series of Resource verification by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC). The first set of students was admitted to the department in the 2024/2025 academic session. Industrial Mathematics is a fascinating field that applies mathematical concepts and techniques to solve real-world problems faced by various industries. It bridges the gap between abstract mathematical theory and practical applications in industries. The Department has a total of thirteen academic and two supporting staff. Among the academic staff are four full professors, one Associate professor, five senior lecturers, one lecturer II, one Assistant lecturer and one Graduate Assistant.

Vision

To be a leading academic department of excellence that will train students who will apply Information Technology in the field of Mathematics for learning, research and practice.

Mission

To produce highly motivated and enterprising graduates with up-to-date knowledge and skills in Mathematics for research and application purposes.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Industrial Mathematics can be traced back to the Department of Mathematics/Computer Science which was established in 1983 to offer BTech in Mathematics/Computer Science. In 2010, the Computer component was removed and the department became Department of Mathematics and Statistics. In 2014 the Statistics option was also removed and department became Department of Mathematics which gave birth to the present department of Industrial Mathematics in 2024.
