The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala fsssn, has sttessed the importance of science and technology education in the society.
Prof. Bala stated this today when he received members of the National Universities Commission (NUC) re-accreditation panel who paid him a courtesy visit at the Council Chamber, Gidan Kwano Campus.
His words: ” Education is a very core and critical area of our national life, and certainly, science education is an area that, as a university of science and technology, we must pay due attention to as we want to provide personnel for the various institutions, especially in Northern Nigeria.”
The VC who disclosed that the University was looking at venturing into new programmes in science education however stressed the need to always take care of existing programmes.
He thanked the team for the visit and gave assurances of maximum cooperation, even as he expressed hope for a positive outcome from the exercise.
Speaking earlier, Chairman of the re-accreditation team, Prof. Gadjam Von Ardo of the Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, thanked University Management for the warm reception and assured that the panel would do its work diligently.
Other members of panel during the courtesy visit were Prof. Muntari Ali from Bayero University, Kano and Ibrahim Abubakar from the NUC.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Yahaya Ahmed Iyaka fcsn; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emmanuel Emeka Udensi, fnip; Registrar, Mr. Amos Nmadu Kolo; Bursar, Mrs. Hadiza Goje and University Librarian, Dr. Katamba Abubakar Saka were present during the courtesy call.
Others are Director, Academic Planning Unit, Prof. Faruk Kuta; Deputy Director, Academic Planning Unit, Dr. John Alhassan; Head of Department, Science Education, Dr. Rabiu Bello and other members of staff.
Up for assessment by the NUC team is undergraduate Physics Education.
