The former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT, Minna), Prof. Akim Osunde, a Fellow of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (fsssn) and a Registered Soil Scientist (RSS) has been re-elected as a member of the Governing Council of the Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) and the Coordinator, North-Central Zonal office of the Institute for another term of three years.
The inauguration of the new members of NISS Governing Council took place today, Thursday, August 19, 2021 at the Shehu Musa Yar’ Adua Centre, Abuja.
Equally important to note, the inauguration of Prof. Osunde was as a result of his re-election at the 45th Annual Conference of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria (SSSN) held on the 21st of May, 2021 at Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State.
According to the appointment letter signed by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Ernest A. Umakhihe stated that the appointment is with effect from August 19, 2021 in accordance with the provisions of the enabling Act establishing the Institute.
The Permanent Secretary further urged Prof. Osunde to continue to contribute his quota to the transformation of the Agricultural sector and Nigeria’s effort towards the attainment of enduring food security.
In an exclusive chat, Prof. Osunde expressed appreciation to all members of the Soil Science Society of Nigeria for re-electing him to serve as member of the Institute’s Governing Council, and promised to continue rendering services on behalf of NISS at the Zonal level by ensuring that the achievements of the Institute are felt at the grassroots where the majority of small holder farmers, the major target of NISS activities reside.
