PROF ADEBOYE HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF MATHEMATICS IN NIGERIA – DG NMC ABUJA

The Director/Chief Executive, National Mathematical Centre, Abuja, Prof.  Stephen E.  Onah has acknowledged the contributions of the pioneer Professor of Mathematics in Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof Kayode Rufus Adeboye, in the development of Mathematics in Nigeria.

Prof. Onah made the acknowledgement through  zoom webcast from the headquarters of the centre in Abuja on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. The Director was the Guest of Honour at the just concluded International Conference on “The Role of Mathematical Sciences in Sustainable Development Goal,” organized in honour of Emeritus Prof. Kayode Rufus Adeboye FMAN, FNMS, FAC, retired Professor of Mathematics in the Federal University of Technology, Minna.

According to the Chief Executive, Prof. Adeboye has participated in various events of the centre and he was part of the team that developed Mathematics Curriculum for undergraduates aside his participation in various conferences and plenaries of the centre.

The lead paper presenter, Prof. Franklin Ogunfiditimi of Department of Mathematics, University of Abuja, in his submission, highlighted that the works of Prof. Adeboye could be used to solve Nigeria’s economic problems and corruption issues.

Meanwhile, the reviewer  of  Prof Adeboye’s publications, Dr.  Abdulrahman Ndanusa of the Department of Mathematics  FUT,  Minna,  opined that by using mathematical modeling, “Prof. Adeboye  visualized many practical problems as mathematical problems and was able to give them logical and quantitative analysis and realistic solutions as against verbose, unscientific speculations often employed by other people.”

Speaking during his welcome address, the Chief Host of the Conference and Dean, School of Physical Sciences, Federal University of Technology Minna, Prof. Jonathan Yisa, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Prof.  Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, and his management team for the unalloyed support and encouragement to the school.  He therefore assured that the school will continue to work towards the actualization of the vision of the institution.

On his part,  the Head of Department of Mathematics, Dr.  Musa Shehu emphasized that when someone retires from active service after putting in his knowledge, wisdom and physical exertions towards the growth and development of the department he served as well as the University in general, such à person cannot be left to bow out without celebrating him in grand style. This belief according to him, formed the basis for organizing the conference in his honour.

As part of this epoch making event, many dignitaries sent in their tributes from across Nigeria and other part of the world in honour of the rare gem.

Responding, the celebrant, expressed his joy and appreciation, noting that it is a rare privilege to be greatly honoured by colleagues, especially being the first of its kind in this University where an International Conference that attracts special class of intellectuals and dignitaries from different Universities in Nigeria and Africa was made in his honour.

The Chairman, Local Organizing Committee, Prof. R. O. Olayiwola  appreciated those who contributed to the success of the conference.

Earlier, colleagues, friends, family members and well-wishers on Monday, April 12, 2021 felicitated with him over his successful retirement from the services of the University and his 72nd birthday celebration at his residence.

The occasion  tagged “How to Say Goodbye to An Icon”, was part of the pre-conference events organised by the staff of the Department as a surprise get together in his honour.

During the celebration, former colleagues and friends of the celebrant took turns to pour encomiums on him for his impact on the Department and the personal lives of the staff.

On his part,  the celebrant: Prof. Kayode Rufus Adeboye said he saw the day as a “red carpet day”  for him,  he then went further to appreciate the organizers of the event for the love,  friendship and recognition showed to him.  He affirmed that the Department has been living the line of one big family.

The climax of the event was the presentation of customized birth Day card to the celebrant and the sharing of pleasantries with conviviality.
