The competition which was held from the 14th-17th of April, 2019.

Speaking before presenting the victorious students to the VC, the President, Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), FUT, Minna Branch, Ibrahim Abdulmumin said the students gave a good account of themselves at the event which resulted in their emergence as winners in three different categories.

The President noted that despite the late invitation given to the University for the event, the students gave their all to hoist the institution’s flag high at the competition while assuring the VC that the students would aim for the top spot at the next edition.

He thanked the VC for his support to the students’ body, particularly his gesture of assisting them with food stuffs during the Ramadan period and prayed for Allah’s blessings upon him.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, congratulated the students for making the University proud at the event, adding that their performance at the event was a pointer to the fact that FUT, Minna is a leading citadel of learning.

“I feel very excited. It just shows that even though we are a University of Technology, we were still able to beat some conventional universities that have Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies. And then, it emphasizes the fact that extra-curricular activities are limitless for our students.

I am very happy. It goes to show that FUT, Minna is a leader in every aspect. Beyond, the technology that we are known for, we are also leading in Qur'an recitation”, the VC stated.

Prof. Bala urged the students to put in more efforts in the next edition by winning the top prize.

The competition, which was divided into three different categories, had FUT, Minna students winning medals in each of the category. In category A; Adekanye Abdulraheem Adedeji of the Department of Civil Engineering came second in the last ten parts of the Qur’an: Juz’ 21-30.

In category B; Adekanye Adewale Abdulazeez of the Department of Biochemistry came third in the last five parts of the Qur’an, Juz’ 26-30 while Abdulrauf Toheeb Olamilekan of the Department of Physics won consolation prize in the last two parts of the Qur’an, Juz’ 29-30.
The Qur’an memorization competition is an annual event organized by the Centre for Islamic Heritage and Community Development, Al-Hikmah University. This year’s event had 12 universities in attendance.
