beloved father, Pa. James Folorunsho Oladosu Odekunle, aged 102 years.

The funeral ceremony which was well attended by many eminent personalities brought together academics, captains of industry, administrators, friends and family members from various walks of life.

The outing and thanksgiving service took place at the famous Methodist Church of Nigeria, Otapete Catheral, Ilesha, Osun State.

In his sermon, the Cathedral Priest, Rev. Joseph Nnamuwem enjoined dignitaries to live a life worthy of emulation and to learn from the exemplary lifestyle of late Pa. James Folorunsho Oladosu Odekunle, adding that just as it is expected of every mortal on earth, Pa. Odekunle had answered the call of his creator.

Rev. Nnamuwem urged members of the Odekunle family to accept the demise of their patriarch in good faith as believers in line with the teachings of Christ.

After the outing service, all roads led to the King’s Mega Event Centre, along Old School Board road, Ilesha where dignitaries were hosted to an elaborate party amidst pomp and utmost gaiety. There was a lot of local and continental cuisines for guests to eat to their satisfaction as well as assorted drinks.

The serenity of the ambience was superb and did not just create a platform for guests who honoured the family’s invitation to merry alone, but also provided a unique opportunity for old friends to do some catching up and for new friendship to be established.

The musical interlude provided by a Juju artiste, Yound Ade took guests at the event down memory lane and brought back fond feelings of camaraderie as the Pro-Chancellor and the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, and other Council members took to the dance floor to display some amazing steps that were reminiscent of their good old days.

Speaking with Campus News at the event, Prof. Odekunle expressed appreciation to the University Management for finding out time to mourn and celebrate with the Odekunle family over the demise of their beloved father, adding that they would forever be grateful to the University Council and Management for the show of support and solidarity.

The Pro-Chancellor described his late father as a thorough disciplinarian and a peace-maker who lived a life worthy of emulation, while noting that the entire community and family would miss his fatherly advice and counselling.

“Having been responsible, focused, disciplined and blessed, I faithfully believe he will receive great good in the great beyond because God had tested him in the crucible of life and must have found him worthy as he overcame life’s tribulations- familial, developmental, occupational, marital, parenting, even spiritual. It is noteworthy that within two weeks of his passing, he sent us, as it were, two additional great-grand sons,” the Pro- Chancellor enthused.

Also speaking during an exclusive interview with Campus News, Prof. Bala urged the Odekunle family to be consoled based on the fact that their father lived a very fulfilled life that is worthy of emulation.

The Vice-Chancellor commended the Odekunle family for the hospitality accorded the visiting team from the University and assured them of the University’s support.

It will be recalled that Pa. James Folorunsho Oladosu Odekunle died on Thursday, September 6, 2018 and was interred on Friday, September 7, 2018.
