The event which was alongside the Annual Registry Welfare programme took place at the Caverton Lecture Theatre, Main Campus on Thursday, Marc 26, 2019.

In his remark at the event, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, who was represented by the Deputy Vice- Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Yahaya Iyaka congratulated Mrs. Kolo for her contributions to the University. He extolled her commitment and hard work, described her as administrator per excellence and wished her good health and long life to continue to contribute to the good of humanity.

Prof. Bala also congratulated the Registrar and his team for putting together the annual lecture and send forth, adding that registry staff are very key to the University system as they put in a lot to make sure they meet several deadlines to keep the University going.

The helmsman urged the Registrar to put modalities in place to have the annual award for outstanding staff as it was necessary to reward them for their efforts. He urged Registry staff to continue to be dedicated to their duties.

Earlier in his welcome address during the programme, the Registrar, Mr. Amos Kolo noted that Mrs. Kolo made immense contributions during her tenure in office and all Registry staff considered it very appropriate to give her a befitting send forth.

Mr. Kolo said she made her marks for all staff of the department in the areas of promotion, change of cadre, annual Registry lecture, Registry’s annual welfare programme, electronic production and issuance of academic transcript, staff development through training and conference attendance and said he hopes to sustain the level of achievement with the support of his staff and University Management.

The Registrar pointed out that the Registry’s annual welfare is now revamped and features talk show on various topics that are relevant to the wellbeing and corporate existence for better understanding of ourselves which in turn boosts individual and collective morale for better performance in the realisation of the goals and objectives of the University.

Mr. Kolo disclosed that a special award will be instituted as Registry staff of the year to be given to the outstanding staff at the end of each year.

He thanked the University Management, members of the Registry Department and Unit heads for their co-operation and dedication to duty since his assumption of office. He also commended the executive members of the Registry Welfare Committee for the success of the programme.

In her response, the immediate past Registrar of the University, Mrs. Victoria Kolo, who was full of appreciation to God for the opportunity to serve in FUT, Minna, thanked Council for the appointment, University Management for the love and support and her former staff for their co-operation during her tenure. She also appreciated her husband and family for their support and encouragement.

She urged all present to remain steadfast and be dedicated to duty.

During the programme, Dr. Abdulsalam Abdulfatai of the University Health Services gave a talk on “Developing Good Mental Health at Work”, defined mental health as the absence of mental disorder and went further to describe the types of mental illnesses.

According to him, we can have good mental health at work by having adequate sleep, appropriate socialisation, exercise, treating any form of infection you notice immediately, managing stressful events professionally, avoiding drug abuse and eating a balanced diet.

Highlight of the occasion was a documentary on the immediate past Registrar, Mrs. Victoria Kolo. The Vice- Chancellor also presented a gift to her on behalf of the Registry Department.
