Former Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Muhammad Daniyan, OFR, who led the team on behalf of the Chairman of the Trust Fund, Prof. Jonathan Ndagi, Foundation Vice-Chancellor of the University said the purpose of the visit was to congratulate the VC on his appointment and to also wish him good luck.

Prof. Daniya said that the team was also interested in knowing the general academic performance of students from Bida who are currently in the Centre for Preliminary and Extra-Mural Studies (CPES).

He further appealed to the University Management to establish an extension of CPES in Bida, just like the Study Centre at Suleja.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, expressed his appreciation for the visit and commended them for funding their candidates.
He disclosed that the Suleja Study Centre had been in the plan since 2010 and the Suleja Emirate donated to the University 12.5 hectres of land, with classrooms and laboratory facilities for running the programme, which will start operation this year.

Prof. Bala stated that allowing the Pre-Degree students have their lectures in the Main Campus will make them susceptible to the influence of other students, as most of them will be leaving their homes for the first time, the reason the University took a deliberate step to separate the preliminary programme from the degree programmes.

He assured that Management will also look at the possibility of having another centre in Bida.

Concerning the performance of students from Bida Emirate, the VC said since there is a relationship whereby the Emirate brings in certain number of students and pays for their tuition fees, the Management at the end of the year should be able to give a feedback on their performance in terms of the Pre-Degree and JAMB examinations.

Prof. Bala assured them that as a general principle of the University, any candidate that goes through the Centre and is able to meet the minimum requirement will be given admission and that whatever information the Emirate needs concerning their students will be given to them in due course.
