, November 29, 2018, at the Caverton lecture theatre, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.

Speaking during the lecture, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Professor Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emmanuel Udensi commended members of ANUPA FUT Minna Branch for making giant strides in the University. He noted that in line with the core mandate of the association, they have organised a lot of training programmes.

The VC assured that Management will continue to support the Association. Prof. Bala who said that the University expects a lot from ANUPA members as a result of the training they have received disclosed that Management decision to sponsor some of them for training both within and outside the country is manifesting in the services they rendered to the University.

He further congratulated the Registrar, members of ANUPA and all the staff of the Registry Department for organising the lecture. He thanked the immediate past Registrar, Mrs. Victoria Nnawo Kolo for bringing the association into limelight in the University.

Delivering the lecture, the guest speaker at the occasion, Dr. Idris O. Jibrin, immediate past Registrar, Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State, said that the phenomenon of university administration is as old as the existence of the university itself and the postulation is anchored on the fact that the decision or even act of creation or establishment of the university enterprise anywhere is always inherently embedded within the need for the administration or management of the institution towards both its sustenance and the attainment of its set objectives or goals.

Dr. Jibrin said that the presence of universities is a worldwide phenomenon in the sense that there is no part of the world where education is being pursued without universities at the apex of the spectrum. With the spate of developments and changes being witnessed especially in the Nigerian University system, intellectual efforts such as this that permits the career administration to critically look inward and self-examine the professional calling, is surely a welcome development and as well as a step in the right direction of deepening recognition for the professions, he added.

He said among other features, universities are generally characterised by unique set ups and organisations; an array of highly trained and competent experts in various fields of endeavor.

He further stated that in the period under view, university administration was a soaring success story and a thing of joy for both the practitioners and the beneficiaries, including staff, student’s parents and guardians, government and the society in general.

Dr. Jibrin said the way forward was to arrest the drift in university administration and pave way for repositioning the institutions towards greater attainment, which may require a reinvention and elevation of the statute, status and role of the career administrators within the challenges and unpredictability of the times.

To realise this, he submitted that the registries in Nigerian universities should, as a matter of urgency, endeavor to institutionalise the following in the scheme of things in the system: recruitment of the right calibre of staff, induction/orientation of new staff, capacity development, posting and departmental blending.

The Secretary of the association Mall. Ibrahim Bello Abdullahi during his closing remark expressed his appreciation to the members of the association and the guests for their presence, cooperation and support towards the occasion.

Highlights of the occasion were the unveiling of the 2nd edition of ANUPA Magazine (ANUPA HORIZON), presentation of award to Mrs. Victoria N. Kolo, immediate past Registrar FUT Minna and the induction of new members.
