The election which was conducted on Saturday, September 1, 2018 using the electronic voting system at the e-Testing Centre at the Gidan Kwano campus of the University, was peaceful as students were seen moving from the hostels and off- campus residences to the election venue where they queued up and cast their votes in an orderly manner.

Ayodeji and his running mates - Abisola Nusirat Bello, 200 level, Department of Civil Engineering, Vice-President 1 and Isaac Adeni Adariku, 400 level, Department of Mathematics, Vice-President 2 swept the polls with 3510 votes, leaving the two other contenders - Adeiza Abdulhameed Saidu ( 400 level Mechanical Engineering) and Adebayo Abdulbasit Yusuf (400 level Electrical and Electronic Engineering) with 1734 and 571 votes respectively.

Chairman of the Students Union Independent Electoral Committee (SUIEC), Engr. Prof. Salawu Sadiku who announced the results, thanked the University Management for giving the committee the needed support to discharge its duties.

Prof. Sadiku who is the Ag. Dean, School of Entrepreneurship and Management Technology (SEMT) also thanked SUIEC members for their efforts and commended the students for their orderly conduct throughout the period of the elections.

In his remarks, shortly after the results were announced, the Vice- Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, congratulated SUIEC for a very marvellous job of conducting the free, fair and transparent exercise as attested to by all the polling agents, noting that it was a reflection of the nature and character of the University’s staff and students.

“I think Nigeria should learn from FUT, Minna,” enthused the Vice-Chancellor.

He pointed out that FUT, Minna is a pacesetter in e-voting as it is the first Nigerian university to start using it for Students’ Union elections since 2005.

The post of General Secretary was keenly contested between Alaba Zachariah Olaore (400 level Mechanical Engineering) and Ababakar Haruna (400 level Geography) while Olaore emerged victorious with 2853 votes against Haruna’s 2701 votes.

Nwuese Joyce Nomigo (200 level Geography) got elected as Assistant General Secretary with 2410 votes ahead of Oluwafemi Adedamola Akaka (200 level Animal Production Technology) and Abdulwasiu Abdulrasaq (200 level Educational Technology) who had 1698 and 1579 votes respectively.

With 3269 votes, Rafat Yewande Alabelewe (300 level Agricultural Economics and Extension Technology) clinched the post of Financial Secretary ahead of Chinenye Lilian Okoro (300 level Biology) who got 2477 votes.

Muritala Faruk (400 level Mathematics) garnered 2572 votes to emerge Treasurer, leaving Aminu Omeiza Mustapha (200 level Entrepreneurship and Business Studies) and Rufus Prestige Oladosu (400 level Chemistry) with 1455 and 1673 votes respectively.

Though unopposed, Ismail Abdulrasheed (300 level Animal Production Technology) still got affirmed with 5286 votes for the post of Public Relations Officer.

For the post of Welfare Officer 1, Damilola Ayopo Adejube (200 level Mechanical Engineering) defeated Muyiwa Abdulhamed Abeeb (300 level Agricultural Economics and Extension Technology) with 3020 votes against 2621, while Toyeeb Abioye Amoo defeated Emmanuel Smart Nwani 2887 votes as against 2625 to emerge Welfare Officer II.
Cherish Jonathan Anyanwu (300 level Estate Management and Valuation) won the post of Director of Socials with 3844 votes ahead of Oluwaseun Komolafe (300 level Microbiology) who got 1715 votes.

Abdulqodri Moshood (300 level Project Management Technology) got the post of Director of Sports with 3013 votes, leaving Ayoola Terwase Tortema (400 level Mechanical Engineering) with 2723 votes.

Members of the Students’ Representative Assembly were also elected to represent the various schools, hostels and off-campus residences.
