Speaking during the visit, Mrs. Aishat Mohammed, the incoming Chairperson of the association, who is also an alumni of the University said, the purpose of the courtesy visit was to congratulate Prof. Bala on the one year anniversary of his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the University and to also thank him for his courage and determination in taking the University to greater heights.

She said the association was established in the year 2004 by the Nigeria Institute of Quantity Surveyors, with the mandate of promoting the services of quantity surveyors among the female professionals and to also help in controlling the practice of carrying out cost analysis for construction. “Involving women in construction work is one of the best thing that can happen to any client,’’ she said.

Mrs. Aishat disclosed that most of the representative who came for the courtesy visit are product of the University and therefore she wants the Management to be present during the incoming inauguration by November in Abuja.

She said the University has given them so much opportunities to discover themselves and they are proud to be whom they are in the society.

Responding, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, thanked them for diming it fit to visit and congratulated them for the success thus far.

He said it is very unusual to see women in the construction sites, therefore he wishes to see more women being proprietors in construction firms, and there cannot be anything more gratifying than to see the Niger State Chapter of the Women Association of Quantity Surveyor been populated by the alumni of the University, as it is a matter of pride and something that needs to be celebrated.

Prof. Bala said that the presence of the University has impacted tremendously, not only on the local community but Nigeria at large. So if the alumni is vibrant, then the University will be able to know what is happening. They should be able to go all out in trying to showcase some of these realities on ground.

The VC appreciated them for being worthy ambassadors of the University and assured them that the Management will give its support in whichever way and also encourage them to continue to do the good work.
