The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn has reiterated the University’s Management support to the Nigerian University Pension Management Company (NUPEMCO).
Prof. Bala gave this assurance today, Monday, November 30, 2020 during a courtesy visit by some officials of NUPEMCO from the Head Office, Abuja at the Senate Chamber, Main Campus, Gidan Kwano.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed delight that NUPEMCO has finally come to stay and that NUPEMCO is making progress with the number of the University’s staff that has joined them.
In his words, “I know that you need a lot of persuasion to woo people on your platform because so many people have waited for NUPEMCO for over 10 years and some people lost hope if NUPEMCO will come to existence. Many thanks to the never say die spirit of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for its doggedness and relentlessness towards the actualization of NUPEMCO.I believe that given the primary objectives of NUPEMCO, it has truly come to stay. It is in my interest as an academic staff to see it work, function in a manner that meets global best practices”, the distinguished professor stated.
The University helmsman expressed worry on the issue of delay in the payment of gratuities to retired staff and advised NUPEMCO to address the problem and look for other issues that would confer advantage to them in order to encourage people to port back to join them.
“In our case here, we are making a commitment that we will give you all the necessary support you need to succeed because it is in our self-enlightened interest that you succeed”, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed.
He expressed optimism that when next they are inviting FUTMinna their capital base would have increased from N68 billion to N680 billion.
Earlier in her address, the leader of the delegation, the Head, Compliance NUPEMCO, Mrs. Ijeoma Mfon said the purpose of the courtesy visit was to register NUPEMCO’s appreciation to the University Management as well as to sensitize staff of the institution on the need to choose NUPEMCO as their PFA Manager.
Mrs. Mfon disclosed that NUPEMCO has come to stay and the support from the various universities in the country has encouraged them to remain resolute in the industry despite the attendant competition, adding that the university’s staff should patronize NUPEMCO because it is their own investment.
She revealed that NUPEMCO now has a capital base of N68 billion as against the zero capital base when they visited the University last year for sensitization exercise.
