As part of efforts to ensure compliance with COVID-19 protocols on campus, the COVID-19 Intervention/Response Research and Development team yesterday demonstrated an assortment of improved equipment to the University Management.
The equipment which were demonstrated at the Main Campus were the manual hand sanitizer, manual hand washing machine, automatic hand washing machine, automatic hand sanitizer and contactless temperature device.
In a brief remark after the demonstration, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala fsssn described the equipment as ‘’wonderful’’ and ‘’marvellous.’’
He disclosed that Management will task the research team to produce more of the equipment preparatory to return of students to campus.
Director. Centre for Open Distance and e-Learning who is also Chairman of the Committee of Researchers assured that the required quantity of equipment will be delivered on schedule.
Notably, the contactless temperature machine is programmed to activate an alarm once the temperature of an object exposed to it is beyond 37.4 degrees centigrade, while the manual hand sanitizer and hand washing machines are pedal-operated.

The COVID-19 Intervention/Response R & D team was formed last year following the Vice-Chancellor’s directive for the University to have a coordinated response to COVID-19.
It derived from three R & D teams drawn from School of Life Science (SLS), School of Infrastructure, Process Engineering and Technology (SIPET) and School of Electrical Engineering and Technology (SEET) involved in producing the identified COVID-19 tools.
