NUC TEAM HOLDS ACCREDITATION FOR MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

A team of experts from the National Universities Commission (NUC), on Thursday, November 14, 2019 visited the Federal University of Technology, Minna, at the VC’s Conference Room, Main Campus.

The team leader, Prof. O. V. Ekechukwu expressed appreciation to the University Management for the warm reception accorded the team and said that the purpose of their visit was to do the normal NUC accreditation exercise for the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

According to him, the team went through all the facilities, met with the lecturers, technologist and students. He assured the Management that the team diligently accessed all the facilities.

Prof. Ekechukwu said the exercise was worth the while because it is a peer review mechanism. He said the programme philosophy and objectives are well stated and in accordance with NUC Benchmark Minimum Academic Standard (BMAX) guidelines, good direction of staff as to where the University wants the programme to head to, adequate programme curriculum, largely adequate admission requirements, students are issued with copies of academic regulations and are conversant with the provision, good standard exam questions with adequate mark schemes, good quality students project report, good general environmental sanitation.

Prof. Ekechukwu also mentioned some areas of concern that the University should address.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emmanuel Udensi said Mechanical Engineering Department is one of the oldest in the University and he believes that the Department should do well in the aspect of accreditation.
He added that the desire of all federal universities is to have more staff but FUT, Minna is constrained when it comes to employment.

Prof. Udensi thanked the team for the report and assured them that everything will be put in place.
