PROF BALA FLAGS OFF FUTMIN X-RAY UNIT

The Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, has flagged off the newly refurbished FUTMIN Ventures X-Ray Unit to cater for the x-ray imaging needs of the University staff, students and the host community.

The flag-off ceremony took place on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the FUTMIN Ventures premises, Bosso Campus.

Speaking before flagging off the project, Prof. Bala commended the Management of FUTMIN Ventures Limited for providing office accommodation for the X-Ray Unit in record time, adding that the commitment shown by FUTMIN Ventures is highly commendable.

The VC applauded FUTMIN Ventures for showing desire to go commercial with the X-ray Unit but however, warned that staff and students of the institution should be given priority because the X-ray Unit was meant to cater for the University community.

Prof. Bala disclosed that the commercialisation of the Unit was a welcome development due to the fact that the X-ray machines are grossly under-utilized after the admission process for new students, a situation that portrayed the Unit as a seasonal business outfit, noting that with the commercial drive of the Unit, the machine will now be put to use on a daily basis throughout the year.

The University helmsman advised that all safety measures should be put in place and also urged them to ensure that proper validation and accreditation exercises are conducted by the appropriate regulatory bodies so that the Unit can start work immediately.

“We are very much happy with the performance of FUTMIN Ventures Limited under the leadership of Mal. Aminu Mohammed Ashafa and we are committed to making sure that we give you all the needed to continue to make progress,” the VC disclosed.

Speaking earlier, the Director, FUTMIN Ventures Limited, Mal. Ashafa thanked all the invited guests for honouring the Ventures’ invitation while noting that the flag-off of the project was in furtherance of the University’s commitment towards providing effective health care delivery to staff, students and the host community.

“I am proud that FUTMIN Ventures Limited is contributing its own quota to the actualisation of the Vice-Chancellor’s policy of boosting university-community relations. With this Lab, staff and students will be saved from the inherent stress of patronising other X-ray and scanning centres in the State with their throat-cutting charges and other challenges faced in accessing x-ray services in town. This project is very dear to us and we are committed to uphold professional practices and to ensure that our customers get huge value for their patronage,” he revealed.

The Director stated that the X-ray Unit will go commercial in order to fully utilise the machines and to generate additional stream of revenue for the University.

He expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Bala for all the support given to the Ventures to succeed, adding that the VC’s support has changed the narrative of the Ventures from wastage and non-performing outfit to a profitable business outfit.

In her vote of thanks, the Deputy Director, FUTMIN Ventures Limited, Mrs. Rebecca Adams thanked the Vice-Chancellor and other Principal Officers for attending the event while assuring that the X-ray Unit will perform its functions in line with standard practice.
