ITS DEVELOPS SOFTWARE TO UPGRADE UNIVERSITY WEBSITE

A team of experts from the Information Technology Services (ITS), Federal University of Technology, Minna has created a new software that would upgrade the University website. The team led by the Ag. Director, ITS Dr. Adamu Mohammed made a presentation on the latest software to

Management on Tuesday, August 27, 2019 at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, Main Campus.

According to him, the feat is in line with global best practices and the software presentation include the University Library Website and University Staff School Website. Others are, University Health Services Website and Senior Non-Academic Personal Website. He then invited each of the experts to speak on the modules.

Speaking on the University website upgrade, the Web Master, Mr. Abraham Twaki said that the new web interface will give room for more information to be featured. While the predominant white background is for aesthetics. The advantage of the new upgrade, he stated, is for easy navigation, faster access to information and loading.

The System Engineer, Engr. Raphael Agboola who spoke on the University Repository for the Library website stated that institutional repository would enhance the University content presence on the Internet, thereby giving it a boost in visibility and ranking.

Engr. Agboola maintained that the University staff and students can login at “My Dspace” and upload their publications and researches or send an e-copy to the repository email.

On the Students’ eVoting Software, Mr. Habu Jimoh explained that the current eVoting uses the Local Area Network, while the new software will allow the students to log in and vote anywhere they are in the world. He further informed that ITS is still working to improve on it in order to prevent hacking of the software.

On the other hand, the Deputy Director, ITS Hajiya Mairo Kanko presented the University Health Services Software. According to her, the essence is to automate the operations of the clinic for swift attendance to patients and reduce queue and to have correct inventory of drugs. Her presentation featured four modules, comprises of the Card Room, Nursing Unit, the Doctors and the Pharmacy.

Speaking further on the University Staff School Website, Mrs. Olufunke Adeoye said the website will be a data baze for all the Continuous Assessments (CA) and examination results where report card could be downloaded by the pupil or parents. Mrs. Adeoye said the website is a good way of helping parents to have access to their wards’ report card at the comfort of their home with just a click.

Mrs. Adeoye also explained the Senior Non-Academic Personal Website, which she said has similarities with the Academic Staff Personal Website.

Responding on behalf of Management, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fssn commended ITS for the impressive presentation while urging them to fine tune the software in the observed areas before it is finally unveiled. He also commended their effort, adding that it would improve the University’s web presence.

Prof. Bala pledged to give ITS all the necessary support needed to succeed.
