VC REITERATES COMMITMENT TO STUDENTS WELFARE • FUTMINNA Gets IT Hubs From NITDA, NCC

The VC made this disclosure on Monday, August 26, 2019 during an interactive session with students of the institution tagged: Meet Your Vice-Chancellor, organised by the Students’ Union Government of the University in commemoration of its 2019 Students’ Week held at the University Auditorium, Main Campus.

Prof. Bala said his administration has paid keen attended to all matters relating to students welfare on Campus without delay, while urging the students to continue to be peaceful and responsible in their educational quest.

The VC disclosed that the University is working on introducing students support service programme to assist and also create revenue source for the students. He noted that under the programme, students with 4.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average would be employed to teach some basic science subjects in some selected primary and secondary schools within the host community to further strengthen the University relationship with its host community.

He also disclosed that the University has attracted the sum of one hundred and sixty-three million naira from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to address the problem of street lights on campus and assured them that work will soon commence on the project.

In the area of Information Technology, the VC revealed that the University has also attracted two IT hubs from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), adding that the NCC IT hub project has started behind the Information and Technology Services building while contractor would soon mobilise workers to site for that of NITDA.

He said that more teaching facilities will be procured for all Schools from the Federal Ministry of Education’s intervention of the sum of three hundred and ninety-five million naira.

Prof. Bala advised students with viable business plans to approach the University Entrepreneurship Centre to nurture their ideas and get support through the Central Bank of Nigeria and the German Agency in line with the institution’s existing memoranda of understanding with the two bodies. He noted that entrepreneurship courses in the university will now be more practical than theoretical with students spending at least minimum of two hours every week in a field related to their course of study.

He assured the students that the University Management is assiduously working on the relocation of the School of Life Sciences and School of Physical Sciences to the Main Campus by the year 2020, adding that the University is also scaling up utilities on campus to be able to cater for the two Schools.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Dean, Students’ Affairs Division, Prof. Abdulmojeed Ijaiya thanked the VC and other Principal Officers for attending the event despite their tight schedule of duties, saying that their presence at the event was a further confirmation of their commitment to students’ welfare.

The interactive session was part of activities lined up by the Students Union Government of the University to celebrate this year’s Students’ Week.
