Speaking during the visit, Dr. Dzukogi said the visit is aimed at expressing gratitude to the University Management for the cordial relationship that exists between the University and the Polytechnic.

“The Polytechnic is 42 years old and being one of the institutions that have affiliation with the University, we have come to show our appreciations.”

He disclosed that three of the affiliated programmes which were denied accreditation have been re-accredited and going by the assessment of the monitoring team, the Polytechnic is not doing badly with her programmes, hence, it will soon put in another request to the University Management for more programme affiliation.

The Rector further stated that the Institution has enjoyed tremendous support and also learnt a big lesson from the University, especially as regard the affiliation, stressing that the University is very thorough and that at every step the Polytechnic has to follow due process and satisfied all the requirements. Although, it took a longer period but it was a worthy experience, he added.

He noted and commended the University for always making experienced hands available to the institution whenever the need arises and giving admissions to staff to pursue Ph.D programme.

According to him, the Institution has not less than 72 Ph.D holders and most of them graduated from the University, adding that like Oliver Twist, more staff would come seeking for admission as in terms of manpower development the cardinal principle of his administration is to encourage staff to go for their further studies, more so, with the affiliation arrangement with the University. He appealed to the University Management to continue to assist when such request is made.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, thanked the Rector and his team for the visit. “We are happy, given the kind of cordial relationship and functional MoU the University has with the Polytechnic. It is only apt that at some point at the top most level, the two parties should meet and talk things over,” he said.

He noted that the affiliation has taken off well and he is happy with the report reaching the Management from DCAL, stressing that the University as earlier stated, is thorough because at the end of the day, the University has no final say on whether the affiliation should go on or not as NUC most come in and that is why the University always insists on the right thing being done.

The affiliation, according to him, is a thing of joy because as a University within this locality it must impact on institutions within the locality, adding that the University has affiliation with institutions outside the state and to say it has none within Niger State, it would not speak well of the University. Hence the decision to have affiliation with institutions within the state so that they will feel the impact of the University and benefit from it.

On some of the issues raised, he assured the Rector that the Management will look into them.

“We really appreciate you for being here and to say that the MoU we have with you is something that we are very proud of and will continue to tell the world we are proud,” the VC remarked.
