PROF BALA FLAGS OFF COOPERATIVE SUPERMARKET • We Are Financially Healthy Now – Mal. Ashafa

The flag-off ceremony took place on Tuesday, June 24, 2019 at the University Ultra-modern market, Main Campus.

Speaking at the event, Prof. Bala commended the President and other Executive members of the Cooperative Society for the laudable project, adding that the supermarket would go a long in ensuring that students, staff and the University community get quality goods at affordable prices.

Prof. Bala thanked the Cooperative Society for their plans to invest in the construction of students’ hostel and event centre at the Main Campus, saying that Management would gladly allocate land to them for the projects.

The VC further assured them of the University Management support in all their programmes and called on other Cooperative Societies in the University to emulate FUT Staff Multi-Purpose Society by complementing Management efforts in the development of the Gidan Kwano Campus.

Earlier in his address, the President of the Cooperative Society, Mal. Aminu Mohammed Ashafa said the flag off of the supermarket by the Vice-Chancellor would signal yet another milestone in the series of life changing schemes introduced by the present Executives of the Cooperative Society since assumption of office in 2017, adding that the supermarket would make household shopping convenient for staff and students of the University.

“This supermarket is part of our strategic plan to create additional stream of revenue for the Cooperative Society in order to meet up with the ever demanding needs of our esteemed members,” the President disclosed.

The President said the supermarket can be described as a one stop shop based on the variety of quality goods stocked inside the supermarket while noting that the it would also afford staff of the University the opportunity to buy goods and pay later at the end of the month through direct deduction from salary.

Mal. Ashafa said the present Executive members have revived the fortunes of the Cooperative Society back in line with the lofty dreams of its founding members.

“We are financially healthy, stable and strong to operate in line with global best practices. We have also concluded plans to key into the University Management’s hostel project policy by investing in the construction of students’ hostel in Gidan Kwano Campus to address the problem of students accommodation. Soon we will invite you for the foundation laying ceremony,” he noted.

The President expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and other Management team of the University for the support given to the Cooperative Society to operate. He also extended invitation to the Management team to attend the 24th Annual General Meeting of the Cooperative Society slated for Saturday, 29, June 2019 at the CPES Hall, Bosso Campus.
