Speaking during the ceremony, the Chairman, Campus Radio Board, Prof. Akim Osunde said that the radio station had never had a recording studio since its inception as it had been doing all its recordings of announcements, jingles, commentary and drama in the only existing live studio.

He said this prompted the Station Management to reach out to BUYPOWER NG to donate the advanced digital audio recording studio equipment.

Prof. Osunde noted that no other Nigerian universities radio station can boast of such; hence, the uniqueness of the gesture.

Prof. Osunde said with the set of equipment in place, standard audio recording quality would be achieved and this will boost the revenue profile of the radio station and the University.

“The equipment will also go a long way in complementing the practical components of courses in the Department of Information and Media Technology, thus adding value to the programme of the Department,” the former DVC (Academic) explained.

He revealed that the initiators and founders of BUYPOWER NG are products of FUTMinna. The current Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Benjamin Ojima Ufaruna and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Leonard Dipo Asehinde are both 2008/2009 graduates of Electrical/Computer Engineering and Maths/Statistics respectively.

The CEO of BUYPOWER NG, Mr. Ufaruna said the company helps simplify energy payment for customers of energy utilities in Nigeria and their mission is to enable energy access for Sub-Saharan Africa.

He said they have always tried to figure out the best way to give back to the society because social impact has been a core component of their mission and a better way to start is with their Alma-Mater, so they reached out to a couple of people they knew back in school to find out if there are opportunities for them to help out in any way.

Mr. Benjamin added that as an organisation, most of the progress they have made has been as a result of the seed that has been sown in their lives, and it was only natural when it was time to give back, they came knocking at the University.

He said it was a great honour to sponsor the project because it is this very ground that shaped and prepared them for life after school and they will continue to look for ways to give back to the society.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, expressed excitement saying that he is very much impressed by what he has seen and the University is always appreciative and grateful to its benefactors for their contributions.

He recalled that the Search FM building was donated by an individual and the University has gone along gradually to furnish and provide some facilities, adding that it is only heart-warming to see that other benefactors are coming to sponsor also help in boosting the profile of the station.

Prof. Bala said that the intervention is very special in the sense that former students are coming to give back to their Alma-Mater. He added that as students and ex-students of FUTMinna, it is in their interest to make sure that the University continues to make progress because the profile of the University is also their profile, and there is no university that strives and becomes highly ranked without the contribution from the Alumni.

The VC appreciated the gesture and assured them that the University will not take it lightly and will make sure that the equipment donated are used properly and wisely.
