DR AMINA ABUBAKAR FLAGS OFF SCIENCE MOBILE TEACHING AID

The event took place on Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at Maryam Babangida Girls Science College, Minna.

Speaking during the flag off ceremony, Dr. Bello commended the State government and the Ministry of Education for the laudable project, adding that it was heartwarming, when she found that the funds for the project came solely from the Ministry’s savings and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

She called on other Ministries, Departments and Agencies to address some of the serious challenges in all the sectors of the State, particularly within the educational and medical sectors.

Dr. Amina noted that public primary schools in the State would soon be renovated by the State government, under the Whole School Approach Development Renovation (WSADR).

Speaking earlier, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Hajiya Fatima Madugu, commended the administration of Niger State Government for spending more than 3.2 billion naira for the renovation and upgrading of nine secondary schools under its WSADR across the three senatorial zones, including Teacher Professional Development Institute (TPDI), located at Mararaban Dandaudu.

Mrs. Madugu urged the beneficiaries to properly utilize and maintain the items distributed to them.

Giving his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Directorate for Research Innovation and Development and Coordinator, Intellectual Policy Technology and Transfer Office, Prof. Moses Olutoye, said the University established has three mandates, namely: research, teaching and community service, because, it was as a result of the teaching effort that brought about the research of the mobile teaching equipment.

He explained that the teaching equipment has gone through so many stages, including patenting, that no one can get it anywhere, without contacting the inventor.

Prof. Bala noted that the project was part of the research mandate, which would help all the secondary schools students to understand science.

He thanked the Niger State Ministry of Education for bringing the product to the community.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Chairman, Niger State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon. Bako Alpha, thanked the Hon. Commissioner for proper utilization of IGR in the Ministry to purchased relevant learning materials for schools in the State.

He reiterated that if the same initiative was extended to other ministries, the main organs of government would have less work to do.

Demonstrating the use of the science mobile teaching aid at the event, the inventor, Engr. Lawal Sadiq, a lecturer in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, FUT, Minna explained that the science mobile equipment, aid teaching of science and technology, including mathematics and can also be used at basic and senior levels.

He further revealed that the use of the equipment in teaching help to increase students interest in science subjects and reduce massive failure in examination. He further stated that government spend less in the purchase of equipment.

In his goodwill message, the Chairperson, TPDI, Hajiya Dije Bala, represented by the former Registrar, FUT, Minna, Mal. Muhammad Dattijo Usman said that they came to identify with the very good course of education.

She applauded the effort of the governor for bringing about a turnaround in the revitalizing of education with the establishment of Niger State Teachers Professional Development Institute, which is the only body in the country.

During the event, vehicles were also distributed to four girls secondary schools, namely: Maryam Babangida Girls Science College, Minna; Government Girls Science College, Kontagora (Unity); Government Science College, Bida; and Government Secondary School, Tegina.

In his vote of thanks, the permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Yahaiya Garba, commended the governor’s wife for gracing the occasion.
