rewarding the bank customers and to address the problem of inter-campus transport system.
The brief flag-off ceremony took place today at the Works Department Parking Shed at the Main Campus.

Speaking before flagging off the tricycles, Prof. Bala commended the Management of the bank for introducing the tricycle scheme, adding that the scheme would enable the University to address so many problems on campus and in the society at large.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed delight that the tricycle scheme would address the problem of inter-campus transport system by providing means of transportation for students within the campus.

“The problem of transportation will be addressed with these tricycles since they will be deployed to commute within the campus and it will help to improve on the availability of transport vehicles for staff and students”, the VC noted.

On the use of the University colour for the tricycles, Prof. Bala disclosed that it would contributes to the effort of the University Management at boosting security on campus because the identity of the tricycle operators are known while stating that it would also boost confidence in members of the University community. He congratulated the bank on the laudable initiative and expressed optimism that subsequent arrangement will follow suit by using the customized colour.

The don further stated that the scheme would also address the problem of youth unemployment by providing opportunity for youths to be employed and have a reliable source of income to enhance their livelihood.

He expressed joy that some of the beneficiaries are from the University host communities and that the gesture is a perfect way for them to know that the University recognize them as a critical stakeholder.

The VC advised the beneficiaries to adhere to the tenets of the leasing agreement and to see the tricycles as their personal property.

In her address, the Chairperson of the bank’s Board, Mrs. Hajara Kuso Abdullahi admonished the beneficiaries to take advantage of the bank’s tricycle scheme to change their fortunes in life by complying with the laid down agreement.

The Chairperson who is also the University Bursar urged the beneficiaries to drive the tricycle carefully and to use it for profitable purposes so that they can pay back the loan as and when due.

Speaking earlier, the acting Managing Director of the bank, Mal. Aminu Mohammed Ashafa said the tricycle scheme was part of the bank’s effort at providing job opportunities for the youth as well as to reduce poverty in the society in line with the law establishing microfinance banks in the country.

The acting MD said the success of the first phase of the scheme encouraged the bank to introduce the second phase in order for other customers of the bank to benefit from the scheme.

“This is part of our corporate social responsibility to the society and to reward our esteemed customers for their loyalty to the bank all though the years”, the acting MD stated.

He disclosed that the tricycles have nine months guarantee from the supplier including three months free servicing, adding that the bank has done all the papers registration with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Vehicles Inspection Office (VIO) with number plate.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries from the host community, Mal. Mohammed Abdullahi who spoke in Hausa language expressed joy with the University Management and the bank for providing a source of livelihood for them. He prayed that Almighty Allah would guide them and also provide for them in time of need.

Speaking on behalf of beneficiaries from FUT, Minna, Mal. Mohammed Danjuma thanked the bank for the gesture and vowed that they would adhere to the terms of the leasing agreement.

The papers of the 21 tricycles were later presented to all the beneficiaries at the event.

It will be recalled that FUTMinna Microfinance Bank started operation in 2012 and has become one of the leading microfinance banks in the State.
