EMIR OF SULEJA CALLS FOR ADEQUATE FUNDING OF EDUCATION ...Prof Bala Seeks Support

The Emir made this call yesterday when the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Abdullahi Bala led other members of the University Management team on a courtesy visit to the Emir’s palace in Suleja.

The Sarkin Zazzau, Suleja stated that the deplorable standard of education in the country should be of utmost concern to government at different levels, adding that education remains the bedrock of development in any nation.

The Royal Father disclosed that if the education sector is not properly funded by government, the students would return back to the streets to constitute nuisance to the society.

HRH congratulated Prof. Bala on his well-deserved appointment as the 7th Vice-Chancellor of the University and advised him to pilot the affairs of the institution with fear of God.

“We are very happy that the Council of FUT, Minna has found you worthy to be the Vice-Chancellor of the University at this point in time and we have no doubt in our minds that you will perform. You mean so much to us as a worthy son of the Emirate. Be rest assured of our full support and prayers; so that you can make FUT, Minna one of the best Universities in Nigeria”, the Emir stated.

The Emir called on the University to organize a dialogue in Suleja to address the problem of examination malpractices and other social vices. He urged the University to fast track the smooth take-off of the Suleja Study Centre which he noted would increase students’ enrollment from the Emirate Council to FUT, Minna.

Speaking earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Bala said the purpose of the visit was for him to introduce himself to the Royal Father as the new helmsman of the University and to also solicit for HRH support and cooperation.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that FUT, Minna would forever be grateful to the Emir for all that he has done for the University since its establishment in 1983 and further commended the Emir for sending representatives during his inauguration ceremony as the Vice-Chancellor of FUT, Minna as well as the 27th convocation ceremony.

The VC pledged the University’s loyalty and support to the Emir and assured the Emir that the University under his leadership would do more for its host communities in the area of community service.

The don said the University would soon commence operation at the Suleja Study Centre with the Pre-degree programme while the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB), diploma and certificate programmes would also be floated at the Centre.

He disclosed that the administrative block and non-availability of hostel accommodation for students at the Suleja Study Centre are some of the problems affecting the smooth take off of the Centre. He called on philanthropists and private individuals to build hostels for students to live in the Centre while stating that the University Management would complete the construction of the administrative block.

Prof. Bala disclosed that further to the earlier free ICT training organized for 100 youths in Suleja, the University Management has concluded plans to organize a one week free ICT training for His Royal Highness and 25 other members of his cabinet on basic computer appreciation.
