Visiting FUTMinna

Niger provides exciting landmarks which undoubtedly delivers an alluring atmosphere for the prospective student who wishes to study in FUTMINNA.

FUTMINNA, GNC SIGN MOU

The Federal University of Technology, Minna and Global Network for Cyber Solutions Ltd (GNC), are to partner for the purpose of establishing an International Centre for Emerging Technology (ICET).

This was made known during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two parties at the VC’s Conference Room, Main Campus, on Tuesday, March 3, 2020.

Speaking during the brief ceremony, the GNC team leader Mr. Oluwasegun Olugbile said it was a privilege to be in FUT, Minna and that the team came to present an initiative that could give an opportunity to work together to provide a very important intervention that would assist the country to take advantage of what is going on worldwide.

He said GNC was established in 2008, and the purpose of the MOU was to put a lead to the process that started last year, which is to solve national problems through the use of technology, adding that it was determined to fill existing gaps and tap into resources that innovation centres are offering in the country.

Mr. Olugbile said the organisation came up with the initiative to provide a mission centre intervention to solve national problems through the use of technology and the goal is to be a research-based transformation project, as the world is now moving towards smart development and smart economy.

He added that the centre is to develop capability that would enable people to engage in the next wave of technology because the data industry is emerging and soon it is going to subdue almost all other sectors. That he said, ICET is set up to give a kind of mission focus and  translate the identified problems into concrete project through the centre, so that they can harness the benefits and gains of the emerging technology to solve problems.

He stressed the need to support the ICET which is one of the intervention and innovations that the team wants to incubate for the world.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof Abdullahi Bala, fsssn, welcomed the team and appreciated them for the interest they have shown in the institution and for being relentless to ensure that this action comes to fruition.

He added that, it is very difficult to keep in touch with technology these days as it keeps evolving. He said since FUT, Minna is a specialized university established to help the nation realize its desire for self-sufficiency in science and technology, is only logical that the University should be at the vanguard of any idea or initiative that has to do with technology.

He said the University is not starting from ground zero as it has been involved in certain aspects of what the centre wants to do, such as Internet of Things (IOT); Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (AIR); Virtual Reality (VR); Block Chain Technology (BCT); Big Data Analytics (BDA); Cyber Space Security and Governance.

The VC however added that the centre will help the University to aggregate and articulate new technological ideas and build a partnership between the private sector and academia.
